Alpine Base Camp
A blend of experiences and stays in New Zealand’s Southern Alps: untouched backcountry wilderness, luxurious lakeside recovery, and working alpine sheep station immersion.
The Polar Express at The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp is a premium three-night winter heli-glamping experience set deep in the remote alpine backcountry of New Zealand’s South Island. The journey includes two nights at the base camp and one night at a private, snow-covered glamp site accessed by helicopter alongside an expert guide.
All meals are prepared by a dedicated camp cook, with technical gear, snowshoeing, 4WD and heli transfers included. Designed to be accessible for everyday fitness levels, the experience offers immersive access to untouched winter landscapes and is suited to couples, families, or small groups seeking a refined yet adventurous alpine escape.

Your arrival in Queenstown is met by private Defender transfer (45 mins) to The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp, where your expedition guide introduces the days ahead over wood-fired dinner at Base Camp Kitchen. Your cozy timber cabin includes a wood burner.
An early helicopter ascent delivers you into New Zealand's UNESCO World Heritage backcountry for a snowshoeing expedition to your overnight camp*. All technical gear and sleeping quarters are prepared before your arrival. Base Camp's signature dishes are cooked over fire in the mountains.
Glenorchy holds Dark Sky Sanctuary certification, ensuring unobstructed star visibility and potential auroras. No prior snow experience required.
*Your itinerary in Glenorchy will be adapted to suit weather and your group’s hiking experience.
NB: Some experiences are season-dependent.
Breakfast is cooked over the fire, then your guide takes you deeper into the high country—another vantage point you won't access without helicopter support*. A mid-afternoon heli pickup returns you to Base Camp, where sauna and showers await as well as your pre-lit wood burner back in your cabin. The evening is yours to explore the area before dinner is prepared in the Base Camp Kitchen.

We are committed to enhancing your journey, one memorable moment at a time. Our Suite Collection promise to you is that our guests always get our best prices and personalised service that exceed your expectations.
Suite Collection's Tailored Experiences gives you access to the most exceptional multi-day luxury itineraries in the world. From the volcanic landscapes of Iceland, to the ancient temples of Japan and New Zealand' majestic high country, each itinerary has been built on one single promise - deliver nothing short of the absolute pinnacle of what every destination has to offer.
Our Tailored Experiences give you the inside knowledge and access of a seasoned local, knowing exactly where to stay, where to dine and where to go - before you've even arrived.
At Suite Collection, we believe that extraordinary travel should leave the world a little better than we found it. That's the idea behind our Book with Purpose initiative. For every reservation made through our platform, a portion of the proceeds is directed to one of the world's leading non-for-profit charities.
Each month, Suite Collection nominates one of our preferred charities, partnering with our guests to give back to a greater cause.
Once a reservation is confirmed, a member of our team personally reaches out - not with an automated message, but with a genuine conversation to understand the finer details of the trip, anticipate our guests' needs, and shape the experience around them. That might mean arranging a private transfer, letting the property know about a special occasion ahead of arrival or securing tickets to a VIP event - whatever it takes, we're here to help elevate every journey you embark on.
At Suite Collection, we don't do points. Loyalty programmes ask guests to wait and collect - we'd rather listen.
Every stay includes a considered surprise and delight, something chosen because we've taken the time to understand what you actually loves, not because it ticks a rewards-tier box. It's waiting for you when they arrive, not redeemed after the fact. That's the difference: points reward loyalty to a programme. We reward the guest.
