The Suite
Occupying the only guestroom in the hotel's historic State Building, the Alcazar Suite is Hotel Californian's crown jewel, a 1,705 square foot sanctuary made for entertaining or for slipping away entirely. Two bedrooms, one with a king and one with a queen, sit alongside two and a half baths, generous living and dining rooms, and a pair of private outdoor decks. A corner mirador frames sweeping views over the Pacific and the Santa Ynez Mountains, while a deep soak tub and the suite's Moorish-inspired detailing carry through the same tiled artistry found across the property. It is the natural choice for a milestone stay, a private celebration, or simply the most spacious perch in the American Riviera.
The Hotel
Set where the Santa Barbara coastline meets the Santa Ynez Mountains in the heart of the Funk Zone, Hotel Californian pairs Spanish Colonial Revival architecture with Moorish-inspired interiors by designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, its courtyards and corridors laid with over a million hand-painted tiles sourced from Morocco. The property traces its lineage to 1925, when the original hotel opened just before the great earthquake that reshaped the city, and today spans 121 rooms and suites across the rebuilt property and its restored historic facade. Guests can while away an afternoon at the rooftop pool overlooking the ocean, unwind at the Turkish-inspired spa, and dine at Blackbird or the all day Mediterranean café Goat Tree, all within an easy walk of the beach, State Street, and Santa Barbara's wine tasting rooms.
