four properties
in near silence
at Ca' del Bosco
in the Dolomites
Italy's north is rarely treated as a single journey.
Milan, Lake Como, Franciacorta, the Dolomites: each is understood in isolation, visited separately, rarely connected. This itinerary moves through all of them in sequence, with enough time in each to register what changes and what doesn't.
The journey opens in Milan at the Bulgari, where early-access to the Last Supper and an evening at Enrico Bartolini al MUDEC, the city's only three-Michelin-starred restaurant, set the register. It moves north to Passalacqua on Lake Como, three nights at a property that operates with the logic of a private house. Then southeast into the vineyard hills of Franciacorta, where a cellar visit at Ca' del Bosco and a morning at the Espace Chenot wellness facility make two nights feel purposeful rather than brief.
The final five nights are at Forestis in the Dolomites at 1,800 metres, built around altitude, forest, the Tree Circle spa programme, and guided hiking across the Plose ridgeline. The journey ends not in a city but at elevation, with the particular quality of rest that mountains, given sufficient time, tend to produce.
UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Dolomites
Designated in 2009 for their geological and geomorphological significance. The rock's characteristic pale colour produces the enrosadira effect: the orange, red and purple hues the peaks take on at sunrise and sunset. A term from the Ladin language meaning "becoming pink."
Three Michelin Stars
Enrico Bartolini al MUDEC
Milan's only three-Michelin-starred restaurant, housed within the Museum of Cultures. Bartolini holds more Michelin stars than any other chef in Italy. Reservations require two to three months' notice; summer sittings fill and do not hold.
DOCG Appellation
Franciacorta
The first Italian appellation to apply exclusively to sparkling wine made by the traditional method. Ca' del Bosco farms 300 hectares of organically certified vines. Their prestige cuvée Annamaria Clementi ages on lees for up to nine years.
Your Italy itinerary
This journey works well from late June through early September. Late June to early July sits ahead of the Italian domestic surge; early September offers cooler Dolomite trails and the beginning of harvest in Franciacorta. Both windows work. Both are worth the choice.
Four properties. Four registers.
Urban, lacustrine, viticultural, alpine: each property on this journey has a distinct character determined by what surrounds it. The Bulgari's private garden in Milan. Passalacqua's descent to the lake. L'Albereta's vineyard position and Chenot spa. Forestis at 1,800 metres with the Dolomites filling the view south. Together they form a journey through contrast rather than accumulation.
Bulgari Hotel Milano
Via Privata Fratelli Gabba, Brera, Milan
A renovated 18th-century Milanese palazzo designed by Antonio Citterio and Partners, set on a private street between the Quadrilatero della Moda and the Brera district. Its 4,000 sqm private garden, adjacent to the Botanical Gardens, provides a degree of quiet and green that the city centre rarely offers. The result is a hotel that feels considered rather than conspicuous.
Suite
Superior Suite. Approximately 70 sqm, facing the hotel's private garden. A foyer opens to a living room and separate bedroom with king-size bed and walk-in closet. Bathroom finished in white Navona travertine with floor-to-ceiling windows, a free-standing bathtub and a large shower.
Passalacqua
Via Diaz 14, Moltrasio, Lake Como
An 18th-century villa above the western shore of Lake Como, restored and opened as a hotel by the De Santis family in 2022. With 24 rooms across three buildings and seven acres of terraced gardens descending to a private dock, it operates with the logic of a private house. Awarded the number one hotel in the world by Travel + Leisure 2023.
Suite
Suite Agnese in the Villa. 90 sqm within the main villa, looking out over the Palazz and the rooftops of Moltrasio. An enfilade of rooms furnished with gilt-framed mirrors, neoclassical portraits and stuccoed ceilings, with a bathroom featuring both bathtub and walk-in shower.
L'Albereta Relais & Châteaux
Via Vittorio Emanuele, Erbusco, Franciacorta
A late 19th-century neo-Renaissance villa on the Bellavista hill above Erbusco, owned by the Moretti family and a Relais & Châteaux member. The property is defined by the landscape around it: private vineyard, adjacent wineries, and views south to Lake Iseo and the Alps. The Espace Chenot Health Wellness Spa, spanning 2,000 sqm, is the longest-running Chenot facility in Italy.
Suite
Torre Bellavista Suite. Top floor of the Bellavista Tower, 60 sqm. Living room, bedroom, two separate bathrooms, a balcony and a private terrace. Views across the Franciacorta vineyards to Lake Iseo and the Alps.
Forestis
Plose mountain, 1,800m, Bressanone, South Tyrol
Forestis sits at 1,800 metres on the southern slope of the Plose mountain, built around a 1912 Habsburg-era structure and expanded with three sculptural towers. With a 2,000 sqm spa rooted in Celtic forest traditions and an adults-only policy, the property functions as a sustained wellness experience as much as a hotel. Chef Roland Lamprecht's forest cuisine is served in a terraced restaurant facing south across the Dolomite massif.
Suite
Suite. 50 sqm in the historic building. Bedroom with king-size bed connects to a separate living area with seating, minibar and desk. Rain shower bathroom. South-facing balcony with views across the Dolomite massif.

Private after-hours access to the Palazzo Fendi flagship in the Galleria, with a dedicated stylist. An alternative lens on Milan's design culture for guests with a specific interest in fashion and Italian craft.
Brescia Cultural Day
A privately guided visit to Brescia from Franciacorta, approximately 25 minutes. Italy's capital of culture in 2023: Roman ruins, a Renaissance piazza and the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo, without the visitor volumes of Milan or Verona.
The Last Supper
Early-slot access to the Cenacolo Vinciano requires booking three to four months in advance and sells out quickly for the summer months. Securing the viewing should be one of the first steps after confirming travel dates.
Enrico Bartolini al MUDEC
Reservations for the tasting menu should be secured two to three months in advance. June and July dinner sittings at the three-star level fill and do not hold.
Passalacqua, Lake Como
The hotel operates seasonally from late March through early January. Availability at peak summer is limited and should be confirmed at the time of deposit. Evenings tend toward smart casual; no formal dress code.
Materia, Cernobbio
Open Wednesday to Sunday only. Dinner reservations recommended four to six weeks in advance for summer sittings. Confirm Day 4 falls within the Wednesday to Sunday window before finalising travel dates.
Forestis
Adults-only; guests must be 14 or older. Accessed via a private mountain road from Bressanone. Spa treatments should be pre-booked before arrival to secure preferred session times across the five-night stay.
Best Time to Travel
Late June to early July is preferred: Milan is warm and long-lit ahead of peak heat; the vineyards of Franciacorta are in full leaf; Lake Como is at its most accessible; and the Dolomite hiking season is fully open. Early September is a strong alternative: cooler trails, fewer visitors in the mountains, harvest beginning in Franciacorta.
Designed For
Couples seeking a journey that moves through contrast rather than accumulation. Each stage has a distinct register: urban, lacustrine, viticultural, alpine. The itinerary suits experienced travellers who have seen the highlights of northern Italy and are prepared to spend time in each place.
