A Feast for the Senses

Bangkok is a city of scale, intensity and constant reinvention. This four-night journey is built on two of its pleasures: the sacred architecture, from the grand temple complexes of the old royal district to the neighbourhood shrines along the way, and the food, where deeply rooted traditions sit beside some of the most progressive kitchens in Asia.

The days have a deliberate rhythm, mornings focused and guided, afternoons left open to rest or recalibrate, and evenings shaped around the city's exceptional dining scene. You see the old city by boat, read its temple murals with an art historian, cook with a chef in a 1903 mansion, and work through a dining run that climbs to Sorn, the first three-Michelin-star restaurant in Thailand.

Capella Bangkok holds it all together, low-rise on the east bank of the Chao Phraya, turned to face the river. The city is explored with clarity by day, then left behind when needed.

Signature Moments
I The old city by river

An early start at Wat Pho for the reclining Buddha as the complex opens, then a privately chartered classic wooden motorboat for an hour on the Chao Phraya, approaching the temple skyline from the water, passing the working riverfront and stopping at Wat Arun on the west bank. Lunch follows at Supanniga, directly across the water from Wat Arun.

II The Mural Journey

A full day with a specialist art historian: through the temple laneways and into the Bangkok National Museum for the murals of Phra Thinang Phutthaisawan, then across the river to the artist village of Khlong Bang Luang, where a 200-year-old wooden house is now a working studio. See Bangkok through its painted walls, from the National Museum to a canal-side artist's community.

III Cooking at Blue Elephant

A morning that starts at the market and moves into the Thai Chine Building, a 1903 colonial-era mansion registered as a heritage site, for a private four-dish session with your own chef. Lunch is what you have just cooked, eaten in the house.

Lunch is at Supanniga on the Tha Tien riverfront, directly opposite Wat Arun, then back to the hotel to rest.

PM The artist village, then Sala Rim Naam After lunch, cross the river to the artist village of Khlong Bang Luang in Thonburi, where a 200-year-old wooden house is now a working studio, time to try your hand or simply watch. Back to the hotel by late afternoon to change. Dinner is at Sala Rim Naam, the Mandarin Oriental's Thai pavilion on the west bank, a four-course set menu paired with a live Khon classical dance performance.
Overnight: Capella Bangkok
